It all started when…

… Dr Libby Kumin, CCC-SLP began the Together for Down Syndrome club at Loyola University. Since, the club has been led by fantastic students who partner with CDSPG to support Central Maryland Ds families. Hooray!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Buddy Pair Program was envisioned as a way to make more meaningful relationships between club students and CDSPG families. Sign up a child with Ds (or other I/DD) for a college-student buddy pair that has pledged to get involved and stay involved with CDSPG kiddos via virtual events (for now) and pen pal activities through the end of the year. Recommended ages: 8 - 13 years, but use your judgment as always!

This is win-win for all involved:

1. children with Ds get the opportunity to practice social and expression skills, receive small-group attention, and can practice handwriting with pen pals

and

2. students go to their professional jobs with a practical understanding of life with Down syndrome …and new friends!
